Tips for Choosing the First Baby Doll that is Sure to Thrill

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

This mommy custom has been appreciated for generations of mom daughter relationships, especially at Christmas or other holidays, such as baby’s first birthday.

Christmas is the season of childhood pleasures and you are distributing it with your own new bundle of joy. Your tiny one is destined to be a princess right from the start. Each baby girl deserves a new doll for Christmas. Never mind that she is still very tiny, the belief will build a foundation for happy memories for years coming up .

As your kid grows they will love to listen to stories about themselves when they were tiny. First on the list will be questions about their ‘firsts’. Let her first doll be wrapped up in ribbons and bows, soaked in Holiday recollections. This tradition can be coupled with her first kids wagon.

When it comes to the first baby doll, she will enjoy to learn that the doll was as big as she was. Or perhaps she loves the part of the story about how you selected this doll because it looked like her. Knowing she ate the lace and sucked on those plastic baby doll fingers will make this doll an heirloom.

Shopping a baby’s first doll is a right of passage for both mom and daughter. Confess it girls, we all reminisce that special baby doll from our past years. As you shop there is more to consider than hair color and eyes.

Consider how your infant is likely to handle this doll. If your princess is still very young, six months old or less, then you need an entirely diverse kind of doll than when if you were buying for an 18 month old.

You also need to consider how you anticipate this doll will be used . If your objective is to start a ritual of collectable doll Christmas presents your buying will take an entirely diverse direction than if you are buying a doll for your little one to use . Porcelain dolls were not made for a toddler to haul around the house by their curly tresses or thrown into the bottom of the radio flyer wagon.

For tiny babies it might not be convenient to purchase a big swanky doll. There are lots of varieties of doll that are made especially for newborn and tiny babies. One of the most popular dolls for this age group is the ‘lovie doll’. A ‘lovie doll’ is as supple as silk or a fleece blankie with a dolls head and tiny arms. The nightdress on this baby is a blanket. It is supple and stands up to chewing without posing a choking peril.

Babieswill adore a doll with a bit more action to her. Smooth is still a good idea , but she is not likely to care about plenty of clothes for changing or swanky accessories. Beware of choking dangers . Some dolls come with hair boo-boos that are so beautiful you can’t blame a toddler for wanting to taste them.

A doll with a bottle or a brush to run through the hair will be a winner. Other features a toddler will take pleasure in are a doll that talks, or whose eyes close when you place them down. Remember she is still very tiny and will not likely enjoy the really complex dolls with 101 phrases, or real eating and pooping action. A basic coo or mama will be adequate.

Happy buying and hopefully you can discover just the right baby for your little doll and the kids red wagon to go along with the doll that will love the outdoors.

8 Easy Halloween Costume Ideas For Kids

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

Have you chosen a Halloween costumes for your kids yet? These days, you can find kids Halloween costumes almost anywhere. Grocery stores even sell them! If you’re on a budget this year, you can create your own Halloween costume, or you can purchase one from the store for a more “authentic” look.

Costumes from famous people are not only popular, they are fairly easy to put together. The best way to go with the famous person costume is to go with the outfit the famous person is most noted for. For instance you can dress up as Waldo from the where’s Waldo books by putting on a striped red/white shirt with blue pants and a red and white stocking cap.

Superman has been a favorite Halloween costume with kids for over 30 years. In this particular costume, there are a variety of commercial versions of this costume as it might be a little tough to pull off by finding things around the house. Most include tights, a bodysuit in red and blue and a red cape. Many little boys use a towel around their necks when pretending to be Superman during the year so having a Superman costume can be fun after Halloween is over too.

One of the most classic costumes has to be dressing your child up as a clown. Clown costumes can be simple to quite elaborate. For the clown’s hair, you can pick up a wig and spray paint it multiple colors for a fun look. Make-up or a big red nose can help with the look. You can go with makeup, or without. But if you prefer, you can use a mask. The main thing to remember with a clown costume is to have fun, keep it light and happy. But since it is Halloween, this is one occasion where it might be appropriate as well to create a scary clown costume if your child is old enough to handle this type of costume.

Another idea is dressing your child up as a dragon. A body suit that has scales/spikes along the center of the back works well for a dragon costume. This costume is especially cute on little kids! If you want to find a dragon costume, you can make one by hand if you’ve got some sewing experience, otherwise many commercial dragon costumes are available.

Knights who slay dragons can go trick-or-treating with your dragon. Dressing your children with the theme of dragons and knights is fun and can help to encourage a playful theme between your children for Halloween. With movies like Eragon becoming so popular, these costumes are going to increase in popularity.

Sponge Bob is a fun character that kids can dress up as for Halloween. A pair of brown shorts, black belt, and a yellow shirt with circles to make it look like sponge holes, and a silly look on their face will complete your Sponge Bob costume. If you want a more realistic Sponge Bob costume, you can find them for relatively inexpensive commercially as well if you’re short on time or creativity.

One cute and quite original idea is dressing your child up as a cookie! A large circle cut out of flannel or fleece sewn together so that your head, arms, and body can fit through with the cookie centering around your body makes a cute and original costume idea. Try varying this idea for your next costume contest.

There are so many possibilities out there that you can let your imagination flow and come up with an original kids Halloween costume quite easily!

Skorpies Kids Roller Skates

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Have you seen the new kids roller skates from Skorpion called SKORPIES? I’ve been checking out quad skates for my kids for a long time and had struggled to find something that I thought looked both stable, strong quality and at the same time funky.

Skorpies are the scaled down version of the popular Skorpion Quadline skates with 80mm soft compound wheels, lower rated bearings, softer springs, and brakes on both skates.

I came across them on skorpion.com and was instantly taken by their cool looks. The colors and styling are really better than your typical inlines. They claim to have the lowest center of gravity of any quad skate on the market ; that combined with the fact they are a quad roller skate make them much easier to balance on.

A skate pro (Rich Humphrey) who endorses them on the website recons that their the best kids skate in the world, which can’t be sniffed.

They’re also size adjustable and can be strapped on over my kids shoes.

Anyway they have just come in stock in the US and can finally be bought online. Yeh, I hear ya, call me a soft touch but my kids are driving me crazy for them so we’ve ordered two pairs. I can’t wait for delivery as all we’re going to hear until they get here is “are they here yet”.

How To Positively Impact Your Daughter’s Self Image With Your Clothes

Monday, October 20th, 2008

There is nothing in the world that compares to the life of a modern teen female. They are constantly bombarded with images of impossibly thin young women who are taunted as the ‘perfect woman’ before their bodies are even finished with the growth cycle. This leads many of them to try and fit into the mold that has been set before and above them.

If you are a parent with a daughter who is less than happy with her body, then there are a few things you can do to help her get through the awkward and confusing years to come. The most important thing you can do is to be an emotionally supportive parent and be there when she needs you most. Allowing her to know that she can turn to you when she feels the need without the fear that you will be judgmental or trivialize her feelings will go a long way in building a trusting relationship.

One of the hang-ups that parents and their teens get caught up in is the type of clothes that your teen wants to wear. During the teenage years, clothes are a way for teens to express themselves. If you are too critical of the clothing she wears, she may get the wrong idea, and believe that it is her that you disapprove of, and not the clothes. This does not mean that you have to let your child wear inappropriate clothing. What it does mean is that when it comes to clothes, if they are clean and the child is not inappropriately exposed, allow your teen some leeway in what she would like to wear.

Compromise is very important in any relationship, and you can help your teen earn this important skill early if you exhibit the willingness to do so. If you want them to wear a certain type of clothing to church or other functions, then let your teen wear something they like when it really isn’t an issue. Visit Clothing Wholesalers in Melbourne

If you have more than one child, you must be very careful never to compare one to the other. Remember that we are each different no matter how closely related we may be. Everything from eating habits to the way we react to certain circumstances will be different from one another. If you compare one child to another, you are giving that child a feeling of not measuring up to her sibling, which is not emotionally healthy. If your daughter has a tendency to do things you do not allow, explain it to her in clear and non-judgmental terms instead of saying anything about (or comparing her to) her siblings. One of the things that parents are always concerned about is the food that our children consume. Be aware that your child will go through eating phases that you may not particularly care for, but it is completely normal. When it comes to food, the best thing that you can do is to offer healthy food at mealtime and provide snacks that are not junk food. Be certain that you maintain a healthy eating regimen as well, for you can bet that your teen will take notice of your eating habits.

Lastly, be sure to provide your family with plenty of exercise by scheduling regular family activities. By teaching your teen to stay active, you can help her stay healthier. Swimming, biking, skating and tennis are excellent exercise activities. Try to pick some activities that are available year round so that during the winter months your family still gets their exercise. Visit wholesale baby clothes

Consider Halloween Baskets This Spooky Halloween For The Young Children

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

If you are considering something different for the holidays of fall then you may want to consider Halloween Baskets this year. These festive arrangements can be bought already assembled or you can make your own. This unique craft will be a hit with kids of all ages.

Many people immediately think that a Halloween gift basket would be a huge arrangement. This kind of item is commonly used for presents and special occasions. However, Halloween gift baskets can come in all sorts of sizes. You can make tiny ones for visiting neighborhood children or you can make that big display for a special family.

One family I have become very close to over the years does not celebrate the Halloween holiday. Instead, the family spends time playing games or they may go out to a movie instead. As the children became more and more aware of the festivities that they were missing I decided to make them Halloween gift baskets.

This project had to be approached very carefully because of the parents’ opposition to many of the themes of the Halloween holiday. Instead of constructing Halloween gift baskets in black and orange I decided to use red and white. I chose these colors for a specific theme.

Instead of making formal Halloween gift baskets, I made night out at the movies baskets. The items I chose included popcorn balls arranged in movie theatre popcorn holders. I added some of their favorite sodas as well as other movie theater treats. Under all of the treats were nice, comfortable fall pajamas for each of the girls.

The girls were thrilled with the night out at the movies theme and they seemed to forget all about missing dress up for the holiday when they found their pajamas. I also made sure to include a fun movie in the Halloween gift baskets as well.

Not everyone celebrates every holiday. I have made many Halloween gift baskets over the years of all shapes and sizes. The night at the movies baskets were just as fun to make and I had a great opportunity to share a little bit of holiday spirit without celebrating the actual holiday.

The other kids in the neighborhood did receive traditional Halloween gift baskets filled with spooky treats and they were thrilled. I was just glad that I could do something a little extra special for my special family as well.

Transformers Toys Are Back

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

I think it is interesting to see how each generation has it’s own special toys that can define it. My brother had two obsessions when he was a boy. He loved the He-Man series and he loved his Transformers toys. He had a lot of both of them, and he played with them all the time. But playing by himself was hard, so I tried to play with him. I wasn’t a huge fan of either one, so I suspect that he didn’t have much fun with me. I didn’t know a lot about the toys so I really didn’t know what I was doing. He loved them though, and he would spend hours by himself with them on a rainy day.

The Transformers toys he had were most definitely fun for me though. It was fun to watch how they work as they change from one thing to the other. They were quite exciting. These Transformers toys that he had were the ones that he saw on television every week. They were for the most part trucks and cars that turned into other things, but there were all kinds of transformers you could buy. Some of those transformers toys were expensive, and he knew he couldn’t have every single one of them that he wanted.

A few years ago, I noticed that Transformers toys are making a comeback, but not at the point they were when my brother was first in love with them. I am not aware if they have a new television show or not, but if the Transformers toys are making a comeback, there must be some way that children are getting interested. Once a cartoon is successful, the toys will soon follow. Though I didn’t realize it when I was a kid, it seems that if you can get a cartoon made that kids will love you are almost guaranteed success in merchandise.

Finding Gifts For Kids Doesn’t Have To Be Hard

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

When it comes to finding Gifts for Kids, you have a lot of choices. The amount of stuff in the stores can be overwhelming, and your kids may tell you they want everything. You may also be faced with multiple relatives who are asking you what they should get for your kid for either their birthday or for Christmas. When this happens, you have to be prepared or your child may end up with repeated gifts, or a bunch of stuff that drives you crazy.

First, you should find out what your kid wants. Make up a list of the things they really seem to want, and then add the things you may think they need. When it comes to gifts for children, you and your kids will have different ideas about what makes a good gift. Narrow the list down so that there are some toys and other fun things, but also include some items like clothes, movies and the other things they may want, but don’t make a priority.

You should then decide which of the gifts for children you want to get for your kids, and then give the rest of the list to relatives. Give each relative a few different ideas so there are not repeated toys and other items. Tell them which toys you think your child will want the most, but also suggest that clothes, books, and other practical items are also a good idea. This is a great idea if you have a family like mine. They always go overboard buying for my daughter, and we could open a toy store with the amount of stuff she gets. It makes life around here very difficult around the holidays.

When you are looking for gift baskets for kids, make sure you shop early. There are many times when a toy becomes popular, and you can’t find what you are looking for if you wait until the day before Christmas. This had happened to me more than once. There is also the problem of hard to find gifts for kids. My daughter was Wiggles crazy on her third Christmas, and there was nothing else she was interested in. Wiggles toys and clothing were scarce around me, so I am glad I started shopping early. I had to get most of her Christmas that year online, but that was OK. She at least had what she wanted, and I was able to find some great deals on gift baskets for kids by shopping on online.

Develop Your Childs Imaginatin With Books For Kids

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

I love kids books, and have since I was a little kid myself. From the Little Engine that Could, up through Five Children and It, and beyond, I adore almost all of the literature that I read growing up. There is a freshness to new readers. Although kids often lack the sophistication that adults posses, they more than make up for it with an enthusiasm that is really quite hard to match. When you are reading books for kids, you can capture some of this freshness and fascination, in the straightforward, yet imaginative storytelling that is so important in this kind of writing. This is even more the case if you get to read books for kids to the actual youngsters. That way, you can see them amazed by knits, trains, dragons, and genies, the same way that these things fascinated you yourself when you were that age. It is a truly rewarding experience to be able to see the joys of a young reader, and that is no lie.

I am so passionate about books for kids, that I have been working for a non-profit charity dedicated to bringing the best literature to poor and underprivileged children for the past five years. If is not like my books for children job was the only thing that I could get – far from it. In fact, I had left a really good job in the professional world to bring books for kids to those who need them most. Although it has taken its toll on my lifestyle, and stopped me from enjoying some of the luxuries that I used to have, I would say that it is easily worth it. After all, instead of just working to make money, I get to really spend each day pursuing something that I am truly passionate about. I love books for kids, and I can help some of the young ones love them the same as I do.

Of course, not all books for kids are quite the same. In our charity, we try to bring a good mix of the old and the new. There are some really good books for kids being written right now, and I am quite sure that they will be around for many years to come, but some of the other ones will probably fade away soon. That is why it is so important to bring classic books for kids into the lives of children, as well as the new ones.

Learn How To Make You Own Gift Baskets This Christmas Season

Friday, October 17th, 2008

I love the Christmas season. My mother has a great deal to do with this. She did many things to make the Christmas season magical as we were growing up. Her goal was not to have us concentrate on getting gifts, but rather to help us feel good about giving to others. The main lesson that I have learned from my mother is that it truly is better to give than to receive. She did this in many ways, but the one that impacted me the most was the Christmas Kids Gift Baskets project that she did for children of our parish whose families were poor. We were not a rich family by any means, yet mom wanted to help those that were less fortunate than us.

Mom worked on her Christmas gift basket for kids project all year long. She sewed the stockings herself. She made them out of red felt with a white felt cuff. My sisters and I would then embroider different Christmas designs on the baskets. The designs were created by tracing around cookie cutters. Sequins and small beads were then sewn on to further embellish the stockings. Mom would always have the Christmas gift baskets for kids project in mind when she went shopping. She would buy small toys that were on sale. Back in the days when I was growing up people were able to trust each other so mom also included many home made goodies in the stockings. She would make popcorn balls and we would wrap them in waxed paper. She would also make fudge and caramels which were placed in the stockings along with an apple and orange.

The Christmas stocking for kids project was then taken to our parish center and given to the priest. Mom let him determine who would receive them. Mom’s name was never given to a receiving family, and she was never told who received the stockings. It was truly a random acted of kindness. It was not done for personal recognition or gain. The one time that I asked mom about no one knowing that she was doing this her reply to me was that God knows.

I have continued my mother’s tradition of the Christmas Gift Baskets. I have my children help pick out toys. We also still hand make the baskets. We buy treats instead of making them because kids have been warned not to eat things that are not wrapped from a store. I hope my children will continue this tradition when they are on their own.
